Winchester

Winchester is a lovely city.  The cathedral is magnificent and when we first moved to Southampton, we attended the evocative annual Carol Services.  In 2013, Kate sang as a member of the Southampton Philharmonic Choir when they performed the Verdi Requiem in the Cathedral.  It was a memorable experience as the choir had to sing without scores, but the resulting performance was ‘electrifying and unforgettable’.

This view of the front entrance of the cathedral  captures some of the many visitors to the historic and venerable building.

In January 2015, Mike sketched this view of the terraced houses in Eastgate Street.  The image is the original sketch in the book he carries around with him.  As with all his pictures, Mike captured the first sketch – en plein air – standing across the busy road.  He will have applied the colour wash when he returned home.  Winchester Terrace
