Mike Greaves

Mike Greaves has been painting for many years and in 2017 he was elected as a Member of the Society of Graphic Fine Art (SGFA).

Currently, Mike is working as Artist in Residence for the Maritime Archaeology Trust in Southampton.   http://www.maritimearchaeologytrust.org/

His preferred medium is pen and water-colour wash, but he also paints in acrylics and pure watercolours too.

He captures the initial drawings from real life, collecting pictures of buildings, parks and people in black and bound A5 sketch books.   Later he will apply a simple watercolour wash to complete the sketch.

These sketches form the basis for his larger pen and watercolour wash pictures.  Examples of Mike’s work illustrate this website; if you would like to view a specific picture in more detail, click on it and a larger version of the picture should appear on your screen.

When working in pen and watercolour wash, Mike is inspired by the sketches and paintings of Paul Hogarth and David Gentleman and loves the freedom and vivacity of their work.
